AIDS Consumer Empowerment Series

In January of 2007, CARC received a $50,000 grant from the Office of Policy and Management. This grant provided the funding for CARC’s ACES (AIDS Consumer Empowerment Series) program which trains people living with HIV/AIDS in Connecticut to conduct community outreach and education initiatives across the state. We hope that this program helps stem the epidemic while empowering people living with HIV/AIDS.

The first round of CARC's ACES program was successful in building new leadership skills for 12 participants from Hartford, Bridgeport, and New Haven. The series culminated in a retreat at Litchfield's Wisdom House, where participants received certificates of completion, as well as special recognition from Speaker of the House, James Amann.

Goals of ACES:

Provide consumers within the AIDS community with the skills and knowledge needed to be effective speakers and advocates.

Provide a structured format for consumers to come together and undertake collaborative local endeavors (team projects) in their community.

Engage and encourage members to assume important leadership roles in community planning forums.

Create a network that reflects and embraces the wide diversity of leadership within the AIDS community.
